While conservative so-called “News” organisations such as Fox News in the United States continue to look at Atheists, Government Regulation and the Separation of Church and State as the warriors in a war on Christmas, the NRA is undoubtedly quietly preparing its 2016 battle plans for the unrelenting war on Christmas it started decades ago.
According to statistics, 2015 has been a bumper year for the NRA’s war, with 326 so-called “mass shootings”, and it’s not even over yet. As of December 23 there have been over 51,127 actual gun violence incidents, 12,967 deaths, 26,214 injuries, 2,598 teenagers killed or injured, and 670 children killed or injured. Even assuming a modest 50 people (combining family and friends) affected by every death, it’s likely 648,350 people in the United States will be having a very grim and unhappy Christmas as they think of their loved one or friend cut down prematurely by some maniac with a gun. As wars on Christmas go, it’s pretty clear the NRA is the clear world-wide corporate winner, lagging only just behind Daesh and the Syrian Government. Yet, unlike both participants in that grim war of terror, the NRA has managed to mostly keep the blood off its hands.
The NRA has continued to agitate against gun laws in the United States for decades, and provided numerous financial incentives for officials on both sides and at all levels of politics that have helped ensure citizens have miserable Christmases, birthdays and other family events every year. So while the NRA may not be saying they’re waging a war on Christmas, their actions and their continuing opposition to gun regulation in the USA makes them the prime offenders.
Not-so-merry Christmas from your local anti-Christmas insurgents, the NRA.
